Fete de la Tomate, Carouge (GE)

July 18, 2009. Between La Praille and M-Parc, this giant market features over 50 varieties of tomato that you can also taste. But that’s far from all. There are over 30 stands, with all the French-speaking cantons and Bernese Jura represented and a very strong Geneva presence  featuring terroir products like absinthe, cardoons, goat’s cheese, honey, apple juice, jams, oils and longeole sausage.

The giant gazpacho will also be a feature this year, and entertainment for all ages includes being able to visit with farm animals, demonstrations with dogs trained to herd ducks, circus acts, carousel, even tractor pulling. Two bands will be playing - an aperitif concert from 4 p.m., then ‘Styl’60′ from 8 p.m. into the night.

If you go onto the website at the end of this item you can download the form you need to fill out and throw in the hat at the Raiffeisen Bank stand on the day; if you’re lucky, you’ll win a year’s supply of vegetables!

From 10 a.m. until late. More at www.umg.ch.
